Often times, we are thrown off by the meaning and the possible hidden traps that word "FREE" may suggest or trigger in our brains. I am asked about this free visits with reluctance and a significant dose of mistrust. As a former "European" my mind doesn't work always like here, the terms meaning and semantics tend to be connected with the real thing and to express the exact meaning of it, without the marketing turns or tricks usually associated with it. 


It is exactly what it says it is :  a visit without any financial commitment on Client's behalf, meant to identify if the issues that someone identifies, are relevant or dangerous and require some sense of action or emergency.

The free visit is an "investment" we are doing in a future business not knowing if there will be a next step but this is an assumed stance and therefore any potential contact is free of "debris" of paying for something that doesn't have too much substance. The substance is given by the initial report after the visit, when certain issues are detected, the situation is explained clearly and the decision to pursue further testing and or diagnose is fully understood.


Quite a lot actually, the Free Visit has the role to get the Assessor acquainted with the premises (house or office building) and perform a comprehensive analysis about the root causes of the probable issues. The Assessor will check most of the :

  • Building condition with regard to integrity and soundness of the structure, envelope, windows, roof, grade  and overall architectural features
  • Energy usage informations - necessary to assess what measures would be necessary to taken to reduce the energy sage and therefore cost. 
  • Interior assessment of the possible moisture sources, presence of different contaminants or pollutants
  • Air testing : identification of the particles concentration PM2.5 and PM10
  • VOC testing - the presence of Volatile Organic Compounds
  • Ventilation presence and its efficiency
  • Mechanical systems functioning

The report that follows after the visit is including the most important aspects observed, possible consequences and of course the actions necessary to fix issues found and / or abatement.


The duration could be anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the onsite situation and the findings. The Assessor should not be limited to a certain time frame if the conditions encountered are serious and require special attention. The goals of the Client and Assessor are aligned, being to take the most out the visit, by maximizing the results and laying a solid ground for future correct decisions. It is paramount that the findings and the solutions to be communicated effectively, clearly and transparently, the homeowner or the building occupant to take correct decisions.


The Assessor is mandated to provide a possible course of action to address to all the issues identified by stating in a clear and open manner :

  • the findings
  • the implications of these findings
  • the causes (identified and/or probable) 
  • necessary steps in Assessor's view how the emphasized aspects can be abated or solved
  • any financial implication and / or offer has to be made very clear and transparent

The Assessor would be able to solve some of the issues on spot, some of the emergencies being possible to be addressed immediately after the visit. Even if that is possible, the visit is still Free and without any financial obligation. The remedies and fixes that the Assessor can provide are a separate deal that would be treated as such. The main purpose however of the Assessment is not to foster any immediate sale nor to provide immediate sales offer for any services or products.

Communication about the future process will determine if the relationship remains open or would be postponed for the future. The company and its affiliates will not pursue any connection unless mutual agreement will occur.
